#Mike Shinoda, Christine Anu, Ziggy Ramo, Kate Miller-Heidke, Georgia Maq & More Join Extensive BIGSOUND 2023 Speaker Lineup
Having only JUST revealed a staggering second lineup which included some of the industry’s biggest names, the southern hemisphere’s largest music industry event BIGSOUND returns with yet another extensive list of conference attendees, set to land in Brisbane this September 5-8.
Leading BIGSOUND’s fourth announcement is co-founder and frontman of the most streamed alternative rock band in history, Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda. Active for almost three decades, Shinoda’s earned three Grammy Awards for his solo work and as part of groups Linkin Park and Fort Minor. His contributions helped Linkin Park to become one of the highest-selling bands of this century - having sold over 100 million records globally. In addition, Shinoda is an in-demand producer who has recently worked with A-list and rising artists alike, from Demi Lovato and Justus Bennetts to Grandson and Sueco. Outside of music, he serves in a first-of-its-kind role as Community Innovation Advisor for Warner Music Group, consulting on the label group’s work across NFTs, Web3, and more, while Shinoda and his bandmates have raised millions through their philanthropic work with self-founded charity, Music for Relief.
Leading BIGSOUND's expanded First Nations Goolwal Goolwal program is one of the country’s most enduring and recognisable voices, Christine Anu who will be appearing in 2023 as an official BIGSOUND Headline Speaker. Over an iconic 27-year long career, the proud Torres Strait Islander woman has achieved 17 ARIA Award nominations, 4 ARIA Award wins, countless charting releases and widely successful roles in theatre, dance, film, television, radio and children’s entertainment.
BIGSOUND is also excited to announce Indigenous and Solomon Island rapper and changemaker Ziggy Ramo to the 2023 program.
Through speaking engagements, music and directorial projects, Ziggy Ramo has quickly become one of the most important voices in Australian music. In addition to his phenomenally important LP ‘Black Thoughts’ in 2020, Ramo has played an equally imperative role behind-the-scenes, using his illustrious platform to challenge settler colonialism and institutional racism within Australia and provide salient commentary on race, masculinity and mental health.
In addition to Christine Anu and Ziggy Ramo, BIGSOUND will also host an impressive crop of homeground talent; joining the Keynote roster is Kate Miller-Heidke, the Australian treasure with an extensive career. Her long-lasting legacy has seen her be the only person to perform the trifecta of Eurovision Song Contest, Coachella, and the New York Metropolitan Opera. Her otherworldly talents as a songwriter and live performer have seen her nominated for 18 ARIA Awards, and win five Helpmann Awards.
Modern house music aficionado and globally recognised producer Anna Lunoe, who’s unique spin on electronic music has scored her spots at Coachella, Lollapalooza, Ultra, TomorrowWorld and Hard Summer will be making her BIGSOUND debut. Having made history as the first solo female DJ to play the main stage at Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas, and having performed at Coachella while pregnant, Lunoe’s impact on the wider dance community cannot be understated.
An important figure in the Melbourne music scene and beyond, Camp Cope frontwoman and impressive solo act Georgia Maq will also be in attendance. Known for fostering important discourse on gender and minority-based disparities in the Australian industry, the ARIA-nominated artist and outspoken equal rights advocate will be onsite at BIGSOUND to deliver an insightful keynote not to be missed.
Composer and Brisbane local Joff Bush, of Bluey fame, is set to share his unique knowledge of the industry. As the ARIA-winning primary composer for the juggernaut children’s show’s score, Bush was the mastermind behind its now-infamous theme tune. His talents have even been praised by the creator of Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda, who said to The Australian, “The music is part of what makes [Bluey] so extraordinary.”
Sophie Payten - AKA Gordi - will also be heading up to BIGSOUND in 2023, for a very special In Conversation with Adrian Collette AM, CEO of Australia Council for the Arts, discussing the launch of Music Australia. In addition to Gordi’s work on the COVID frontlines as a doctor, her philanthropic work for bushfire affected victims and mentoring work with upcoming acts through SAE, the folktronica musician has also developed an equally impressive music industry resume with ARIA nominations and massive success with television and film syncs across everything from HBO’s The Walking Dead to the Netflix hit ‘To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You’.
In addition to BIGSOUND’s spread of conference events, over 140 of the finest emerging acts will play to hundreds of labels, publishers, agents, festival programmers, publicists and thousands of fans, all keen to discover the future of music.
For three packed days, the annual event will return to its home in Fortitude Valley, bringing together the biggest hearts and minds in the global music industry.
