The southern hemisphere’s biggest music industry gathering, and Australia’s longest-running and most influential music market BIGSOUND has just expanded with an expansive lineup of the industry's most important figures set to land at the event in Brisbane from 5 - 8 September, 2023.

Coming off the back of the globally revered Netflix documentary WHAM! as well as several decades of invaluable music industry knowledge, BIGSOUND is pleased to welcome industry icon Simon Napier-Bell to the 2023 program. With a resume that includes managing the late, great George Michael, WHAM!, The Yardbirds and Boney M (to name a few), as well as penning four best-selling books, writing music alongside Dusty Springfield and directing documentaries centred around Frank Sinatra, George Michael and more, Simon Napier-Bell will now decent upon Fortitude Valley for his not-to-be-missed in-conversation.

BIGSOUND is also excited to announce highly acclaimed, Grammy award winning English composer Simon Franglen to the program. With more than 400 music credits to his name, Franglen has spent over three decades in the industry, working with Michael Jackson, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Madonna, Barbra Streisand, and Quincy Jones, as well as playing a pivotal role in the creation of music for the likes of Titanic, Avatar, Moulin Rouge!, Skyfall and Spectre in the James Bond franchise, Se7en, The Amazing Spider-Man, Space Jam, Cool Runnings and more.

Continuing to push for change and placing meaningful issues at the forefront, BIGSOUND has also once again delivered an impressive cohort of important industry. BIGSOUND’s global reach goes even further in 2023, with Cockenflap Festival’s promoter Cora Chan arriving from China, ATC Live’s Caitlin Ballard and FKP Scopio’s Silke Westera set to attend. President of FUGA / Downtown in Netherlands, Christiaan Kröner will make his BIGSOUND debut, alongside German music industry heavyweights Patrick Daniel from Reeperbahn.

“While we’re extremely fortunate to have a thriving, tenacious and ever expanding industry in our own backyard, the importance of global relationships cannot be overlooked,” said programmer Tom Larkin. “So, in 2023, we’re leveraging all 22 years of our collective BIGSOUND experience to secure the most important figures in the industry for our next crop of Aussie acts. Deals mean meals and every very person we are bringing to BIGSOUND can further an artist’s career immeasurably!”

QMusic Chair Natalie Strijland added, “Whether it’s helping formalise a global partnership or simply putting acts in a room where they could discover a piece of advice that could transform their career, BIGSOUND is 100% dedicated to creating an environment for artist change, and providing the best people to help make those changes happen.

The annual event will once again return to Brisbane’s one-of-a-kind Fortitude Valley music precinct, where by day, the world’s music decision-makers come together to drive the industry forward with important discussions around the development of art and commerce, and by night adventurous music lovers discover the future of music.
