Music engagement for young people looks very different now to what it looked like for the generations ahead of them, with instant access and engagement with their favourite artists being the primary shift. Music discovery in the age of Spotify and social media is a different beast than waiting for your next favourite artist’s video MTV, hearing a new track on radio, or an appearance in a magazine.
Youth are more engaged in music than ever before but less so in what’s on offer to them locally. So what does music actually mean in youth culture now? They tell us just that.
