Meganesia is a new contemporary dance and music work presented by Gaba
Musik and directed by Airileke. The full production brings together some of the most celebrated dancers, musicians and vocalists from PNG alongside,
Zenadth Kes, Yolngu and Bama (First Nations), drawing from a shared
ancient history, shared dances, family ties and songlines. The many
similarities range from subtle dance motifs to drums, rhythmic patterns,
melodies, language, songs and bilas (attire), all pointing toward an ancient
connection when the 2 land masses were one.
Musical rebels Sorong Samarai from West Papua and PNG provide the sound
track alongside featured vocalist Mereani, Kaiit, Yirrmal Marika, Deline
Briscoe, PNG #1 Hip Hop Artist Sprigga Mek and Master Percussionist
Airileke. Gaba Musik are always prepared for the unexpected, supporting the
future sound of Papua, Zenadth Kes, Bama & Yolngu.
At Bigsound 2025 Gaba Musik will present an excerpt of the Meganesia
show, providing a creative platform that brings more context for ancient
wisdom, new talent and innovative ideas showcasing some of the most
incredible urban performers in PNG and Australia.
