About
Yirrmal Marika is a proud member of the Rirratjingu clan from Yirrkala. He began his musical journey at age 11. Influenced by his father Witiyana Marika of Yothu Yindi and his grandfather Dr Gurrumul Yunupingu, Yirrmal draws inspiration from iconic Indigenous musicians. His debut single "Deep Blue Sea" in 2013 and the acclaimed EP Youngblood highlight his rich storytelling.
Notably, Yirrmal featured on Baker Boy's 2017 hit "Marryuna," which won Best Song at the Music Victoria Awards. His recent releases, including "Promised Land" with Dami Im and "Love Sweet Love" with Shane Howard, showcase his evolving artistry and cultural impact. Yirrmal’s music bridges two worlds, sharing a powerful message of cultural heritage and contemporary expression, making him a standout artist in Australia's vibrant music landscape.
