Tara Kumar is an Irish-Indian-Malaysian DJ, broadcaster and writer based in London. Originally from Mparntwe/Alice Springs, Australia, she began her career as a musician before moving into music journalism, radio and DJing.
After six years at RTÉ 2FM in Ireland, where she hosted and produced the New Music Show and interviewed artists including Dua Lipa, Skepta, PinkPantheress and Shania Twain, Tara relocated to London in 2022. She is now a regular presenter on BBC Radio 1, covering Future Sounds, Future Artists and the Indie Show, and has also appeared on BBC Radio 6 Music alongside Steve Lamacq and Huw Stephens.
Alongside broadcasting, Tara has DJed at festivals including Electric Picnic, Forbidden Fruit, Longitude and All Points East, supported Cher on her European tour in Ireland, and worked with brands including Guinness, Adidas, GQ, Smirnoff and Levi's. She also writes a regular New Music column for Clash magazine, championing emerging artists and the latest releases.
With nearly a decade in music and broadcasting, Tara is passionate about discovering new talent and connecting audiences through music, culture and storytelling.
