Matt Hsu is a QMA-winning founder of 25-piece Matt Hsu’s Obscure Orchestra — a vital outlier in Australia as a rare POC-led large alternative/indie ensemble. What began as Matt’s multi-intrumentalisttinkering have bloomed into acclaimed anti-racist alt-orchestra comprising BIPOC, First Nations, disabled, non-binary and trans artists. Matt’s mythos as an inimitable composer, where “whatever Matt Hsu touches is imbued with class and adventurousness” (Triple J), is firmly woven in Australia’s cultural fabric, beloved for creating otherworldly sounds exploring juicy spaces between cultures.
